Myths of Thebes

The owner of this much loved kitchen and utility wanted them refreshing and
asked us to make better use of the space available. Key items on their
wish list were an island and a plate rack.

Stori’s Jefferson shaker door in Shell was chosen for both the kitchen and utility. Jefferson is a quintessential traditional design with a raised solid ash frame, veneered centre panel and a grain painted finish that exudes charm and sophistication. The knobs in Brushed Nickel are by Stori. The work surfaces, upstands and windowsill are Silestone Night Tebas by Cosentino.

The island is petite but functional, housing the Bosch integrated dishwasher and a lot of additional storage. The worktop has the added benefit of a pop up socket that includes a USB connection. It really fills what was  once an open space in the centre of the kitchen and the curved doors soften the design.

The design features tall housing units to accommodate the Bosch integrated fridge and a Bosch pyrolytic double oven. An integrated tall swing out larder leaves plenty of room for storage. A versatile plate rack with 15 spaces at the bottom is perfectly placed to make everyday crockery more accessible. Above there is shelf space, ideal for cookery books and displaying treasured ornaments with ambient LED lighting.

The curved doors are repeated on the corners of the sink and hob runs to mirror the island curved doors. The spacious AEG gas hob has 5 burners. For the splashback, the customer chose a simple white tile with a deep translucent glaze, with matching decorative end tiles showing a Glasgow rose motiff and matching edging tiles above the upstands. They decided against having an extractor (not something we would recommend!).

The utility is practical for everyday use with a second sink, handy when coming in from the garden, and is home to large worktop appliances that don’t need to be in the kitchen, including an integrated Bosch microwave. A large Samsung American fridge freezer offers chilled water and ice on tap.

CLIENT REVIEW

We couldn’t be more pleased with how the team at Grappenhall Kitchen Company created our new kitchen. We were very impressed with all the staff who were polite and clearly very skilled.

We were also really pleased with how the project was managed and we were kept up to date about every stage. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Neil, Carole and Andrea to sort out for us. We highly recommend their services.
